Photos: Janie Martin

In my research I came across more photos of my maternal great-grandmother, Nancy Jane Jarman. Born in 1892 in Palmyra, Tennessee, “Janie” Jarmon moved to Arkansas in 1910, where she met her husband Jed Martin and had my grandmother, Hester.

I believe these pictures are probably from around that time.

Here is the new photo:

My great-grandparents Jed and Janie Martin, her brother Wingo and his wife Addie (nee Green).

And here is the one that I already had, clearly from the same day:

Another early photo of Janie with her siblings also emerged. Here her sister Sally is labeled as “Polly” but I think it is the same person. This must have been in the very early 1900s.

This goes along with another photo I have of the Jarman family. This one probably dates to just a bit earlier:

That’s my grandmother Janie on the far left with the white neck tie. This yold have been in Tennessee.

I it always exhilerating to find photos of great-grandparents that I haven’t seen before, because that is a generation that I still feel connected to. They’re not do far back in time as to feel imaginary or disconnected — these were my grandparent’s parents. There is something accessible in their experience as it touched on someone who was alive at the same time as myself. I think it is this generation that I find myself most fascinated by in my research.
