Divination Week of 1/16 - 1/22/23

This week, or cards bring a message of closeness and comfort. There is a feeling of things fitting perfectly into place.

In terms of astrology, there are many events that support an ease to the tension we have been feeling for the past several weeks or months.

On Wednesday, Mercury stations direct. The planet of communication, technology, and local travel has been stationed retrograde since December 28, causing confusion, technical glitches, and in some cases full blown travel meltdowns. The cloud of general chaos and confusion caused by this retrograde will lift over the next few weeks.

On Friday, the sun moves from Capricorn to Aquarius. We release the season of ambitious structure and embrace the weird and wonderful network of Aquarius. New and interesting ideas begin to flow. Ideally we find that some solutions have traveled down the river to our doorstep.

On Saturday this energy is enhanced even further with a new moon in Aquarius. It’s time to make plans based on new and interesting ideas. How can we do things differently this time, so that we have an even more successful result? We learn from our mistakes and challenges, and we resolve to try again.

On Sunday, Uranus stations direct. The tumultuous planet of rebellion and change has been resting in the sign of Taurus since last August. Unlike the fast moving planet Mercury, Uranus has a more subtle impact when it is in a retrograde position. As it ends the retrograde phase, we may feel compelled to act on changes that we know must be made but have lacked the energy, resources, or desire to address. The last five months have prepared us to take action. Bolstered by the energy of Aquarius, we are strongly encouraged to make necessary changes and try a different approach.

The Queen of Cups encourages us to follow our intuition to make these changes. Even though it can be scary, this is the kind of change that will result in increased stability and well-being in the long run.

From my Poet’s Oracle, we have the Anne Spencer card. Spencer was a Harlem Renaissance poet and scholar.

From Spencer’s Poetry Foundation page:

Harlem Renaissance poet and activist Anne Bethel Scales Bannister Spencer was born on a Virginia farm in 1882. The daughter of former slaves, Spencer’s mother enrolled her in school for the first time when she was 11, at the Virginia Theological Seminary and College (now Virginia University of Lynchburg). Six years later, Spencer graduated as valedictorian. Though she lived in Virginia her whole life, she maintained close friendships with many Harlem Renaissance writers, including James Weldon Johnson, Langston Hughes, and W.E.B. Du Bois. She worked with Johnson and others to establish the Lynchburg chapter of the NAACP and served for 20 years as the librarian for Dunbar High School.

Her story is one of grit, determination, and absolutely of forging her own path regardless of others’ expectations. Her tale is the perfect inspiration for this week, which also begins with a holiday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King.
