Be About You

Now is not the time to worry
about the weeds next door

or whether that stray dog
will trot around the corner.

Turn instead to mopping floors
the sudsy dishes, check that plant
to see if it needs watering,

plan the daily meals
trim roses
dust along the baseboard,

give attention to
the inner life of days
and what they mean
as shadows creep
along the wall.

There will be another chance
to practice each stitch, each stroke
each tiny movement of completion
that paints a finished picture
of our dreams.
