New Moon in Cancer 2023
Collective reading for the New Moon in Cancer 2023. For this month’s reading I used the Wild Life Tarot and the Gatsby Oracle.
Where am I right now?
The Magician (rev) + it was splendid
You have been experimenting with making magic outside of the box, and the results are surprising and delightful. You have realized that you don’t always have to do things the same way, or for the same reasons, as everyone else. This revelation has created more freedom and creativity for you, and you have identified some methods and practices that seem to be successful. There’s no need to mess with a good thing; if it works for you, then go with it.
What is influencing me?
Two of wands + the East was haunted
The specter of old relationships, friendships, or group work is haunting you. Your way forward is informed by what did not work in the past. These challenges stick in the back of your mind, making you doubt if you can trust working with others in the future. The issue is not whether you can work with others, since some degree of cooperation is necessary in life, but how to best enter into these arrangements. In the past, you may have relied on customary ways of doing things or gone along with the status quo. But you may be better served by breaking with tradition. Take time to identify what has not worked in the past, and make sure to communicate your needs and ideas clearly in order to create a working climate that suits everyone involved.
What have I released since the last full moon?
Seven of Pentacles (rev) + full of money
During the past two weeks, you have learned some important lessons regarding the relationship between work and reward. There are limits to what can be accomplished by simply putting your nose to the grindstone. At the same time, some amount of effort is required to achieve material success. The balance of this equation is different for each person based on their circumstances. Be aware of what you need in order to feel financially secure, and be prepared to calibrate the effort necessary to achieve these results. You can’t have to overwork yourself, but you can’t rely on magical thinking either.
What seeds am I ready to plant?
King of Cups (rev) + a beautiful little fool
It’s time to consider what you need in order to move forward on the path toward emotional maturity. You may have encountered some circumstances recently that either challenge your emotional stability, or that resulted in you throwing an unbecoming temper tantrum that you’d rather avoid in the future. You can’t put your head in the sand or feign innocence and expect problems to go away or resolve themselves. Part of being a mature individual, for better or worse, is taking responsibility for yourself and your own feelings. You must also acknowledge how your actions impact the wellbeing of others. With this new moon comes the opportunity to make amends and to take steps toward increased self control in the future.
How can I help my intentions grow?
Ace of Cups + they were careless
It’s important now to consider your own feelings in balance with the feelings and needs of others. This new moon is an invitation to increase emotional intimacy by getting to better understand your own emotional world with the goal of better relating to others. There is no right or wrong way to be, as long as you lean in to compassion and kindness. Being careless with the feelings of others will not make things easier for you — this behavior only hinders your own emotional growth. Instead, have the hard conversations and create appropriate boundaries as necessary to maintain a balance in relationships. That’s not to say that no one will ever get their feelings hurt, but you should strive not to do so intentionally.
What can I rely on during this cycle?
Nine of Wands + I was curious
As the moon grows full, be confident that you can rely on your wits and intelligence to guide the way. There is no need to act as though you have all the answers, however. Instead, be curious and open to learning, to having your opinions challenged, and to adjusting your attitude as you go along. Part of being resilient is being intellectually flexible, and knowing when new information is valuable and must be integrated into your world view. In doing so, you gain a deeper understanding of the human experience that will serve you well in the future.
